A Broken Piece In Time
Posted By yumado on December 5, 2009
The night, as dark as the times, covers my tracks.
A bullet nearly misses my head, I take cover behind a tree.
Bright lights shine in my direction,
Panning from one side to another.
I close my eyes, trying to calm my heart, my breath.
The loud engines are still running.
I hear footsteps. Dogs barking.
Panning away, the lights no longer shine in my direction.
A quick run, I hide behind another tree,
Betting my life I can get through this.
They’re getting closer, I can feel it.
Breathing heavier,
Panic sets in.
A glimpse of escaping breaths in the light.
I piss myself.
The dogs catch on to the scent!
Panting, I lose my cool.
Barks grow louder.
An animal runs out of the bushes.
I sigh.
Believing they’re gone,
They’ve given up their search,
I allow some time to pass.
Push my luck,
A quick and quiet run home.
Burying my fear,
I see my home, ransacked.
The windows, broken,
And the door, gone.
Praying the worst was over.
Back in my home,
Picking up my lamp,
I spot a colonel in my chair, smiling.
A bullet enters my temple.
The curtain closes.
